# Review suggestions

Compare an AI update to your edited page line by line, apply it or dismiss it, and decide what to do with pages whose code was removed.

A suggestion is Docup's proposal for a page you edited. It exists because the code behind the page changed, and you should decide whether the page changes with it.

## Find suggestions

Suggestions appear in three places:

- On the page, as a neutral banner: **AI has an update for this page**, with the 7-character short commit hash of the push that caused it (if available).
- In an update run, where the page is marked **Update to review**. See [Runs](/guides/runs).
- In the Updates list on the project Overview, for example "Docs updated: 1 update to review".

## The comparison

Choose **Review changes** to open a panel that shows your page next to the suggestion, line by line.

- Added lines are green and begin with `+`.
- Removed lines are red, struck through and begin with `-`.
- Unchanged stretches are folded to keep the view short, with three lines of context around every change.
- The header counts how many lines were added and removed.

The suggestion was written from your text, so most pages show only a few changed lines. If it shows a large rewrite, read it carefully before you apply.

### Comparison limits

To keep the browser tab responsive during large updates, Docup limits the size of the diff calculation:

| Parameter | Limit | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Max comparison cells | 4,000,000 | The maximum product of the line counts of the differing middle sections. |
| Context lines | 3 | The number of unchanged lines kept visible around each change. |

Before performing the diff, Docup automatically excludes identical lines shared at the start and end of both pages to save memory. If the remaining differences still exceed 4,000,000 cells, the panel falls back to showing all remaining lines in the section as entirely removed and added.

## Decide

| Action | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| **Apply update** | Your draft is replaced by the suggestion. Readers see it after you publish. |
| **Keep my version** | The panel closes. The suggestion stays on the page for later. |
| **Dismiss** | The suggestion is discarded. Your page does not change. |

After you apply a suggestion, the page is still yours: later pushes keep suggesting instead of overwriting. If you dismiss, the next push that touches the same files may propose a new suggestion.

> **Note:** Applying a suggestion changes the draft only. If the page is live, publish to show the new text to readers.

You can keep editing while a suggestion is waiting. If you want to take only part of it, apply it and then edit, or copy the lines you want and dismiss.

## When the code was removed

If a push deletes every file a page was written from, the page shows an amber banner: **The code this page describes was removed**. The page is not changed, and a live page stays live until you choose.

| Action | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| **Keep page** | The page becomes entirely yours, with no source files. Pushes never touch it again. |
| **Unpublish** | Takes it off the live site and keeps the draft. Shown only when the page is live. |
| **Delete page** | Removes the page for good. |

## A note on timing

Suggestions are made after a push. An update waits for about a minute of quiet before it starts, so a burst of pushes produces one suggestion. See [Keeping docs up to date](/guides/updates).
